FAQ’s about
the website:
-
Why isn’t the site address County Line Quilters
instead of CLQuilters?
-
CLQuilters is fairly short and easy to use in publicity materials.
-
The name countylinequilters is already claimed and in use by other
groups.
- CLQ is already a handy nickname
many members use in email and other communication. By moving to this
abbreviated version of the guild name, it makes our site more unique
and easier to identify and find.
- Why
aren’t there more pictures of quilts and members?
-
Graphics use up server space which will create a maintenance issue
over time for the site. “Keep it simple” is an important starting
point for this site to ensure it is inexpensive and easy to
maintain.
-
Web privacy policy dictates the need to protect the privacy of
members & visitors. This includes any quilts and works by members or
visitors. It is not appropriate to post graphics without explicit
permission or if it may pose any kind of risk. Things like show and
tell or trunk shows may “feel” public activities but are in fact
private to our members and visitors. Graphics of past guild quilt
shows are posted on the web site because that type of event is
specifically public and so does not violate our privacy policy.
-
Why aren’t guild newsletters posted on the web?
-
Web privacy policy dictates the need to protect the privacy of
members & visitors. Our newsletters often include information some
members or guild visitors would not be comfortable having posted to
the World Wide Web, including: address info, email info, phone
number info and the like.
-
Why isn’t the guild membership list posted on the web?
-
Web privacy policy dictates the need to protect the privacy of
members & visitors. Our newsletters often include information some
members or guild visitors would not be comfortable having posted to
the World Wide Web, including: address info, email info, phone
number info and the like.
- Who
decides what content goes onto the web?
- The
Webmistress makes final decision of what will or will not be posted
on the website working in conjunction with the guild president and
following guild web guidelines. This is similar to how the Guild
Newsletter Editor manages the guild newsletter. Both are volunteer
positions in the guild.
- Who
has access to edit content on the web?
- The
guild Webmistress and the guild president (and vice president if
there is one in office) and potentially 1 other board member that
the president may select to have access to the site. The
Webmistress is responsible for providing the President (and
vice-president) with necessary password information and instructions
each year or whenever there is a password change or significant
structural changes.
- Is
the site free or does the guild have to pay for the website to exist?
- The
site is not free. Every 2 years the guild must vote funds to protect
and reserve the domain name. Renewal of domain name is next due on
or about Nov 1, 2007. In addition, there is a monthly web hosting
fee for the site. The guild must vote annually to continue to fund
that hosting (access).
- How
will guild evaluate if the website is working, worth the expenditure?
-
Webmistress will report the number of visitors (hits) to the site
every 2-3 months.
-
Newcomers will be asked how they heard about the guild to determine
if website is providing guidance.
-
Membership will be queried at least once a year to determine if
website has been of use in specific ways.
