3 Fat Quarter Challenge - March 24th, 2009 Program Mtg

The Challenge:

Choose 3 fat quarters, design an item, make it, & develop instructions for others to follow should they choose to make it in the future.

The Rules:

1.  Each member will come to the March program meeting with 2 fat quarters in cheery, spring colors.

2.  Groups of three will be chosen at random at the program meeting. We will make adjustments if we do not have enough members to have 3 in each group.

3.  It is suggested that other tools that may aid in your design process also be brought to the March program meeting, such as graph paper, rulers, paper, etc.

4.  Groups will meet and design their creation at the March meeting.

5.  The group will select 3 of the 6 fat quarters to use in the project. Remaining fat quarters may be donated for comfort quilts if desired.

6 . Trading of fat quarters between teams IS allowed.

7.  Once the team selects three fat quarters, no changes may be made.

8.  Embellishments (non fabric) may be added without limit.

9.  The group should use at least one quilting technique in the project that at least one member has never done before, i.e. fabric folding, machine trapunto, hand quilting, appliqué, etc.

10. No restriction on what the item can be.

11. Groups will decide amongst themselves the distribution of labor for actually making the project. The work can be broken down into three pieces and the teams can discuss and exchange info and the materials at the April and May meetings. It is preferred that each member take part in the actual creation exercise. (None of those dreaded high school group projects where one person does all the work!!!)

12. Items and directions are to be presented at the June Potluck.

13. At the June potluck we will run a raffle ($1 a ticket, 6 tickets for $5), with donations going to our Comfort Quilt projects. Team members may not bid on their own item!

14. One member will win each of the items through the raffle.

15. The team whose item receives the most entries will receive a prize!
