The Great 6" Block Swap in Spring Colors

At the January 23, 2007 meeting, it was demonstrated how 6" blocks can be straight stitched together to create a simple quilt top. Then that can be re-cut using a template that lays across the intersection of 4 block pieced areas. The template is placed at an angle and the new block is marked for cutting. When the new blocks are cut out of the top, the are re-sewn again with straight sewing to create a different top that has a spinning top effect. We'll do a block swap at the March 27th, 2007 program meeting in spring colors to help create some fun versions of this quilt pattern.

This Block Swap will be run like a cookie exchange. Bring your cut blocks in to the meeting and then take a block from all the other piles of blocks brought by others. The result should be a satisfactory diverse pile from which to construct the top that will eventually be re-cut and resewn.

Bring 36 blocks of a SINGLE light or medium spring color of Green, Yellow or Purple and ALSO bring 36 blocks of a SINGLE dark spring color of Green, Yellow or Purple.

Example: 36 blocks all out of the same light yellow fabric and 36 blocks out of all the same dark purple fabric would be the correct approach.

Blocks should be:
* 100% cotton fabric please to ensure even grade of fabric for everyone participating
* Batik or Solid fabrics (or very small prints that read as solids)
* Appropriately cut with rotary blade and NOT RIPPED from fabric
* 6" square UNFINISHED size

Note: 1 yard of 42" wide fabric comfortably yields 36 blocks without any issues
